PIGMENTATION
MELASMA
The most prevalent form of hyperpigmentation is known as melasma. Melasma typically presents as irregular patches of tan, brown, or brown-gray pigmentation, often appearing in a block-like formation, primarily on the face. It is more frequently observed in women than men, often linked to hormonal changes and frequently occurring during pregnancy. While prescription topical medications tend to be more effective than over-the-counter skin care products for lightening dark spots, the definitive method to eliminate pigmentation from deep within the skin layers is through aesthetic treatments. Our clinic provides a range of pigmentation removal treatments tailored to each individual's specific skin condition.
AGE SPOT
Age spots result from overactive pigment cells, with the production of melanin accelerated by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. These spots can affect individuals of all skin types but are more commonly observed in adults with lighter skin tones. Over time, age spots may increase in size and cluster together, resulting in a speckled or mottled appearance on the skin, and they tend to persist without fading. They develop in areas frequently exposed to sunlight over an extended period. A good preventative measure against age spots is protecting the skin with broad-spectrum sunscreen and minimizing exposure to UV light. Our comprehensive skin assessment protocol helps determine the severity of your condition, enabling us to recommend the most suitable aesthetic treatment based on your skin's condition.
FRECKLES
Ephelides, commonly known as 'freckles,' arise from an excess production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin, hair, and eye coloration. These marks are flat and typically range in color from red to tan or brown. Freckles are primarily induced by sun exposure and sunburns. It's advisable to minimize sun exposure and apply daily sunscreen, especially if you're prone to freckling or wish to prevent further development. Although freckles cannot be removed completely, prescriptive and over-the-counter topical products can lighten them. For faster results, aesthetic treatments such as lasers and cryotherapy are more effective in reducing freckles over a shorter period.
POST-INFLAMMATORY HYPERPIGMENTATION (PIH)
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) arises from skin irritation or damage, often stemming from conditions like acne, burns, eczema, allergic reactions, infections, insect bites, lichen planus, pseudofolliculitis barbae, and psoriasis. Epidermal PIH may take months to years to completely fade, typically necessitating prescribed topical treatments like hydroquinone, retinoids, and corticosteroids, in addition to medical spa procedures like microdermabrasion and light chemical peels. Dermal PIH, on the other hand, proves more challenging to address and may require more intensive aesthetic treatments to effectively lighten affected areas.
