MEDICAL SCALP CONDITION
ALOPECIA AREATA
Alopecia areata, an autoimmune condition, leads to the immune system attacking healthy hair follicles, causing hair loss and impeding new growth. This condition can affect individuals of all ages, typically manifesting as sudden, painless hair loss in small scalp areas. Hair loss may also extend to other body regions, potentially resulting in complete hair loss known as alopecia totalis. Our medical doctors will assess each individual's condition and recommend tailored treatments, which may include prescription medications and aesthetic procedures to promote hair regrowth.
SEBORRHEIC DERMATITIS
Seborrheic dermatitis often results from an inflammatory response to excess Malassezia yeast, also known as pityrosporum. This rash can manifest as dry, scaly, or greasy scales, sometimes a combination of both. It is a chronic condition that can persist for extended periods, with episodes of remission and recurrence. Aggravating factors include cold weather, hormonal changes, and stress, but it is not contagious. Common triggers encompass hot showers in cold, dry weather, as well as harsh detergents, strong soaps, solvents, or chemicals on the skin. Our medical doctors will assess your condition and customize the most suitable treatment, incorporating prescription medications (oral/topical) and scalp treatments. Treatment typically spans several months with consistent follow-up sessions to optimize medication and treatment effectiveness.
TRACTION ALOPECIA
Traction alopecia may initially present as small scalp bumps resembling pimples and progress to hair loss and breakage. This condition can be reversed by avoiding tight hairstyles that pull on the hair (like ponytails or braids). During a thorough consultation, our doctor can prescribe antibiotics to prevent infection, topical steroids to reduce scalp swelling, antifungal shampoos, minoxidil (Rogaine) for hair regrowth, or biotin supplements to strengthen hair. With regular scalp treatments, traction alopecia is manageable.
MENOPAUSE RELATED HAIR LOSS / HAIR THINNING PATTERNS
Hair loss during menopause results from hormonal imbalances, specifically reduced estrogen and progesterone production, which affect hair growth. A balanced diet, stress management, and hormone regulation can improve hair quality. Supplementing essential nutrients tailored for women can also help. Our doctor can prescribe oral or topical medications for early symptoms. Combining laser treatment and regular scalp treatments for maintenance can reverse the effects of menopausal or hormone-related hair loss.
PREMATURE GRAYING HAIR
Gray hair is the result of reduced melanin production. Stem cells that develop into melanin-producing cells may deteriorate or become damaged over time. As a result, melanocytes produce less melanin until they cease production altogether, leading to hair losing its color. Gray hair has less melanin, while white hair lacks it entirely. Although genetic graying is irreversible, it's important to prevent excessive damage to hair follicles before it leads to permanent hair loss. Our doctor can create personalized treatment plans to promote optimal scalp health, ensuring healthy growth and fuller, thicker hair regrowth.
